ABOUT US

WHY WE'RE HERE

EVERY DAY THE COLLECTIVE VOICE OF THOSE WITH LIVED EXPERIENCE INFORMS OUR STRATEGIC THINKING, HELPING US TO PROVIDE SYSTEM IMPROVEMENTS THAT ARE EFFECTIVE, PRACTICAL AND SCALABLE

Hope drives change

Everything we do is rooted in the belief that when they have hope, even people with multiple challenges have the capacity to change. That hope is born when providers begin to see not the bundle of problems, but the person behind them.

Joined up responses

At the Revolving Doors Agency we work in a uniquely collaborative way that brings our team’s hands-on knowledge of research and policy together with the perspective and insights of those who have experienced the failure of the system. This allows us to provide joined-up responses to the needs of people with multiple and complex problems.

We are a charity that create and shares research, influences policy and evaluates services to break the cycle of personal crisis and crime we call the Revolving Door.

Problems including mental ill-health, drug and alcohol abuse, crime, homelessness and domestic violence can so often amplify each other, trapping some of society’s most vulnerable people in the downward spiral of the Revolving Door.

We are not a service provider but our fresh thinking helps other organisations make a life-changing difference. Our work as a charity sets us apart because, unlike others, we don’t just focus on any single problem. Instead, we look at the person and their whole spectrum of individual needs ─ help with alcohol problems and mental health difficulties at the same time, for example.

The experiences of those who have been through the system – and often been failed by it ─ are at the centre of everything we do. With their unique insights, they now play an active part in changing things for the better.

OUR STORY

Our journey began in 1993

We were driven by the need to know why one particular group of individuals was trapped in the revolving door of homelessness, crime and mental health problems. Our goal was to transform the lives of people let down by a system that was routinely failing them.

WHAT WE WANT

THERE MAY BE NO ‘SILVER BULLET’ BUT WE HAVE SEEN POWERFUL EVIDENCE OVER AND OVER AGAIN THAT MEETING THE FULL SPECTRUM OF PEOPLE’S NEEDS CAN YIELD BETTER RESULTS

The next five years present huge opportunities to do things differently

Devolution, delegated authority and closer partnerships between stakeholders can all be key. We have an unmissable opportunity to re-imagine the working relationships that exist between Local Authorities, Clinical Commissioning Groups, Police and Crime Commissioners and the Police, along with other services that regularly come into contact with The Revolving Door group, such as Jobcentre Plus.

Providers must share a single goal

At The Revolving Door Agency we are building the most compelling body of evidence ever that by developing a new spirit of partnership and collaboration between all these providers, we can achieve a gold standard of service for some of the most marginalised individuals in our country. We CAN transform lives while at the same time reducing both the cost and the social impact of their offending within their communities.

WHAT WE KNOW

OVER 1,000 PEOPLE WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THE REVOLVING DOOR HAVE SHARED THEIR EXPERIENCES WITH US. THE RESULT IS A UNIQUELY INSIGHTFUL PICTURE OF THE GROUP SO OFTEN FAILED BY OUR PUBLIC SERVICES.

Finding New Solutions

At The Revolving Doors Agency we are dedicated to finding new solutions for a group who have multiple and complex problems. All our interviews, research and data analysis are dedicated to growing our practical knowledge in this field.

The body of robust evidence we have amassed since 1993 is a powerful resource for driving change, not just for our team but also to inform the thinking of our public service providers, policymakers, public sector managers and academic researchers.
